Congratulations on carving out time in your schedule to dedicate to self-care! Taking care of ourselves, body and mind is such a critical practice. If you have decided that a massage is just what you need to rejuvenate and restore yourself inside and out, you're in the right place! Here's precisely what you can expect during your first massage, from start to finish.

Before Your Massage:

As a tip, we recommend to all our clients to try and schedule their massage during a time when they have nothing pressing afterward. You'll enjoy the opportunity to relax post-massage, and your body will appreciate the chance to reset.

You'll likely need to complete a form or two when you arrive for your appointment. This is important both for your safety and your satisfaction. Filling out your health history and personal information lets your massage therapist know if there are any areas they should avoid or pay special attention to. Next, you'll move to your own private room, where you'll be asked to get comfortable. For some, this can mean removing most of their clothes, while others prefer to remain covered. Once you're ready, you can slip under the sheet and blanket on the massage table. Take a few moments to relax before your therapist returns to begin the massage.

During Your Massage:

Often, your massage therapist will tell you what you can expect. If you have any questions or requests, now is a wonderful time to voice them. Different types of massage can involve various tools, such as hot stones or certain oils. The techniques used also vary with the specific form of massage you book. Many first-time clients choose a relaxing, full-body massage, often called a Swedish Massage.

Full body massages typically start with you lying face up. Your therapist will work from your scalp to your toes, massaging each arm, hand, leg, and foot on their way down. Next, you'll be asked to roll onto your stomach for them to massage your neck, shoulders, and back. In most cases, the massage therapist will end the massage by having you roll back onto your back so they can gently clear your sinuses with a facial massage before your leave.

After Your Massage:

A massage certainly is relaxing, but it has several health benefits too. It helps move your lymphatic system, increase blood flow, and release muscle tension. Because of this, you can feel a little dizzy, tired, or have a slight "out of body sensation." These feelings are normal and will fade with time. However, it's best to go home and take it easy, letting your body process what just happened. Aside from resting, we recommend drinking lots of water to flush out any accumulations in your body that may have moved during the massage. After a great night's rest, you should feel good as new – better, even!

Massages are a treat for your body and mind, though enjoying them regularly can profoundly benefit your physical and mental health.
